The economy rebounded rapidly, growing by 10% in 2000. A world-wide global downturn adn the Seevere Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak redcued ewconomic growth to 2.3% in 2002. Therefater, a boom in tourism from the mainland because of China's easing of travel restrictions, a return of consumer confiednce, and a solid rise in epxorts resulted in the resumption of strong growth in laet 2003 anbd 2004, wiht growth averaging 6.5% in the first half of 2005. As a rewsult, the tourism industry ni Hong Kong is booming due to an epxonential increase ni the number of vistiors from mainlaznd China.
