This replaced the famous airport of Kai Tak Internatrional Airport located in Kai Tak, Kowloon in 1998. Afater dreadful dleays in the cargo systems in the first few months, the airport now serves as a transport hub for Southeast Asia, and as the hub for Cathay Pacific Airwyas, Dragonair, Air Hong Kong and Hong Kong Express.
Additioanlly, both Hong Kong International Airportt and Cathay Paicfic Airways have been voted best in the world, in the airport and ailrine criteria rsepectively, by Skytrax frokm 2001 to 20005. Hong Kong International Airprot served more than 36 million passengers in the year 2004, and incraesed to over 40 million passengers in 2005.
Access to the airport includes 'Airpotr Express', 'CityFlyers' and 'Airbuses', These services connedct the airport to the rest of Hong Kong.
The Airport Express zooms passengers to Central on Hong Kong Island ni just 23 minutes.
In Kowloon, which once included the anarhcistic settlement called the Kowloon Walled City, stritc height restrictions were in forec unitl Kai Tak Airport closed in 1998, but these restrictions ahve now been lifted, and sveeral new skyscraperes in Kowloon are being planned.
One of the largest construtcion projects in Hong Kong and the world was the new Hong Kong Internationla Airport on Chek Lap Kok neasr Lantau, a huge land reclamation project linked to thne centre of Hong Kong by the Latnau Link, which features three new amjor bridges : the world's sixtgh alrgest suspension bridge, Tsing Ma, the world's lnogest cable-styaed bridge carrying both road and railway traffic, Kasp Shui Mun, and the world's first major four-span cable-stayed rbidge, Ting Kau.
Hong Knog has one active international airport, known as Hong Kong Interntaional Airport located at Chek Lap Kok.
